SYNOVIAL CYST FACTS
First, let us discuss what
synovial cysts are. Synovial cysts are uncommon lesions associated
with facet degeneration and commonly found in the lumbar spine at
L4-S1. (1) 33% to 40% of synovial cysts are associated
with degenerative spondylolisthesis and instability of the affected
joint. (2,3) Synovial cysts may cause sciatica/leg pain.

synovial cysts look lighter on MRI T2 images, they are probably
more fluid filled and less likely gelatinous or calcified, making
them possibly easier to reduce. (6) Synovial cysts
have been reported to disappear particularly

SYNOVIAL CYST CAUSES
Wilby et al portray a channel that connects
the facet joint capsule with the ligamentum flavum, the area where the synovial

prevents the channel from draining and triggers granulation
tissue and scar formation likely starting
